A knife roll felt like a natural addition to the EH Works product line. Owner and Chef Mike Easton of Il Corvo Pasta and Pizzeria Gabbiano further encouraged the need for a dependable knife roll that he could use to transport his tools between the restaurants and home. Mike is a cyclist and a big fan of our Bike Tool Roll, so as a chef who totes his knives around on two wheels, he quickly noticed the lack of functional knife kits that fit his lifestyle. Since we always aim to create products that intersect utility and design, we set about to make the EH Works Knife Roll. This is how:
With Mike as our primary kitchen consultant, we shared the prototype with him, who in turn shared it with Chef and friend Johannes Heitzeberg of Pizzeria Gabbiano. We test-drove the pockets with their wide array of knives and kitchen tools, making sure that all of the features of the roll were functional. After incorporating their feedback, EH Works founder Erica Hanson and guest designer Krista Stackhouse perfected the final pattern.
Finding the right materials was imperative. The roll needed to maintain the same design aesthetic as our Bike Tool Rolls, while having added structural integrity for the heavy knives that it might contain. We continue to choose a durable waxed canvas, thick thread to reinforce the seams, metal hardware and leather trims.
There is nothing more rewarding than seeing the final product in use! We spoke to both Chefs, Mike and Johannes, and they both agreed the product to be functional, succinct, easy to transport and simply stunning. We couldn't be happier to share the final result.
The EH Works Knife Roll is made with heavy cotton waxed canvas. It has 13 pockets for holding larger knives and tools, 4 narrow "Sharpie" pockets, and a few smaller pockets perfect for your more delicate tools. A group of pockets are positioned on the opening flap for quick access. The roll is carried by hand with a leather top-handle, or by shoulder with an adjustable and detachable leather strap. Closed securely with our signature cinching and locking leather straps, the EH Works Knife Roll folds up easily to accommodate exactly what you choose to carry. No more, no less.
